Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service’s 40th annual Cross Country Race, incorporating the 42nd UK Fire Services Cross Country Championships, takes place on Sunday 8 October 2017.

The event will be held over 8.52km/5.28 mile and 5.72km/3.6 mile courses in the historic National Trust-owned Stowe Park, near Buckingham.

Entries are invited from individuals and guest clubs as well as fire and rescue services. Entries will be accepted at Stowe on the day.

Venue: Stowe School, Buckingham, MK18 5EH. Stowe is a world-famous neo-classical masterpiece - one of the great English estates, with extraordinary golden stone buildings with domes, colonnades, temples, follies and features created by the great names of 18th century architecture, spread around hundreds of acres of awe-inspiring parkland and formal gardens dating back to the 1700s.

New course: Deer Park - undulating parkland suitable for spikes, considered to be a very testing course. Multi-lap course of 8.52km (5.28 miles) = three laps. Women 5.72km (3.6 miles) = two laps. Supervets may run one lap of 1.76 miles (no race award). Same venue as first event at Stowe 29 years ago.

Race start time: 14.00hrs men and women.

Start: Deer Park, adjacent to main drive, Stowe Park (National Trust).

Directions: If approaching from Buckingham, please ignore the National Trust signs and use the Stowe signs.

Car parking: On grassland off the main drive, 100m beyond security gate, adjacent to this year's course. Park on the field on the left side at the “Fire” notice.

Reception, changing and showers: In Sports Pavilion, 100 metres from car park, through gate on opposite side of main drive. Note: Rugby pitches out of bounds. Race numbers issued on day. Please arrive by 13.00hrs.

Presentations and refreshments: School dining room from 15.30hrs, a hot meal will be provided. Special 40th mememtos to all participants entered by the closing date

First aid: This will be provided by a qualified officer.

Risk assessment: Carried out.

Race permit: Permit applied for.

Race awards: First three individuals men and women, age category and team awards according to entry at closing date. (Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service awards, same criteria with three score on watch or station entry). Team scoring – 4 men, 3 women on finishing position with separate scoring for men and women.

Entry: £12 per person for fire and rescue service and UKA-affiliated club runners. £14 per guest runner not affiliated (£2 sent to UKA). £3 for any supporters requiring a hot meal. Firefighter name changes permitted on the day. Closing date for entries is Wednesday 13 September 2017.

Future events: Two Inter-Service Representative Matches. Selection for these events will be on the basis of the day’s results and past performance:

  • Wednesday 22 November 2017 – Prison Service v Fire v Police, to be held at Prison HQ, Newbold Revel, Rugby, CV23 0TH.
  • Thursday 11 January 2018 (TBC) – RAF v Police v Fire v Civil Service v Universities, to be held at RAF Halton, Wendover, Buckinghamshire.
