Appeal for witnesses after fatal collision on M40

Police are appealing for witnesses to a fatal collision on the M40 early this morning.
At around 3.30am on the northbound carriageway between junction 1a (the junction with the M25) and junction 2 (Beaconsfield), a collision occurred between a White DAF lorry and a white Mercedes car.
The ambulance service was called and paramedics attended but the driver of the Mercedes, a 26-year-old man from the Reading area, died at the scene. Next of kin have been informed. The driver of the lorry, a 53-year-old man, was uninjured.
Firefighters from Gerrards Cross and Hillingdon were among the emergency services at the scene.
Sergeant Ed Crofts from Thames Valley Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “We are very keen to hear from anyone who was travelling on that stretch of road, either north or southbound, at that time and may have seen the collision or either vehicle prior to the incident. Please call us as a matter of urgency.”
