Motorcyclists are being invited to an informal drop-in session at Winslow Fire Station on Sunday 18 May. It runs from 9am to 3pm, and is the first of five planned over the summer months.
The sessions, all of which will be on Sundays, are the result of a new partnership between Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service and Milton Keynes Advanced Motorcyclists.
The other confirmed dates are 15 June, 13 July and 14 September. The August date has yet to be finalised.
Milton Keynes Advanced Motorcyclists will be talking to riders about advanced rider training and offering safer riding tips, as well as promoting Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service’s Biker Down courses.
Firefighters from Winslow Fire Station will be providing support and advice too, and there will be free tea and coffee for anyone who comes along.
Keith Wheeler, Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service’s road safety officer – and a keen motorcyclist himself – said: “Government statistics show that motorcyclists are about 35 times more likely to be killed in a road traffic collision than car occupants, per mile ridden.
"With traffic conditions these days, it's more important than ever that you can deal with the unexpected.
“These sessions give us an opportunity to talk to bikers about training courses in the area and to pass on information to help make them safer riders.
"We are grateful to Milton Keynes Advanced Motorcyclists for working with us on this initiative and we are keen to explore the benefits of similar partnerships. I hope similar links can be made with other advanced rider and driver organisations across our area.
"This is one of the ways in which we are working to help keep bikers safer as they travel in our area. The A413 has always been a popular road with bikers, and Winslow Fire Station was the obvious place to try this idea out."
The events have been organised by Alison Still, Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service's Community Safety Coordinator for the Aylesbury Vale area.
