Explosion & gas leak in Bletchley
Wed 27 Nov, 2013
Firefighters from Bletchley Fire Station were called to Gairloch Avenue in Bletchley at 5.17pm yesterday, following reports of an explosion in a house and a gas leak.
Thames Valley Police, South Central Ambulance Service, Milton Keynes Council, gas engineers and the British Red Cross Fire and Emergency Support Service also attended.
A 100-metre exclusion zone was set up and about 100 people were evacuated from 57 homes. One woman was taken to hospital. An evacuation centre was set up at Sycamore Hall in Drayton Road, Bletchley.
Station Manager Jeremy Williams, one of the officers at the scene, said: "Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service’s primary concern was for the safety and welfare of local residents, and members of agencies who had to work within the hazardous area.
"We provided fire and emergency cover while gas engineers investigated the leak, because of the potential risk of fire."
The leak was isolated during the night. Fire crews were able to leave the scene at about 3.30am.
