Buckingham's firefighters have handed over two charity cheques totalling £5,800 following a successful fundraising ball.

They made the official presentations yesterday at Buckingham Fire Station to Kerry James from The Fire Fighters Charity and Georgia McCormack from the British Heart Foundation. Both charities received £2,900.

The ball was held on 6 July at Villiers Hotel's Old Town Hall in Buckingham. The event’s main sponsors were Aylesbury-based ACCO UK.

Watch Manager John Robinson, from Buckingham Fire Station, said: "This year's event built on the success of our two previous charity balls in 2010 and 2011, which raised a combined total of £9,500.

“One again, the success was due to the massive support of the local community and businesses, and the overwhelming generosity of guests on the night.

“These charities are special to us and we would like to thank everyone who has helped us raise so much money for them."
