Firefighters at Marlow Fire Station have won the Courage Award in Marlow FM’s annual Hidden Gems Awards.

Radio station presenter Ali Crook handed the award to Crew Manager David James at Saturday’s awards ceremony at the Crowne Plaza in Marlow.

Station Manager Paul Scanes said: “We were proud to be nominated, but winning is fantastic. The award recognises the dedication and commitment shown by our firefighters at Marlow Fire Station.

“It also recognises the support and understanding the firefighters receive from their families and partners, who hold things together and carry on as normal when the crews are called out to an emergency.

“We would also like to thank the local businesses in Marlow that release staff to support public safety within the local community and beyond."

The town's firefighters are called out by pager from home or work to emergency incidents in the area. They train during evenings and weekends to ensure they are prepared for any emergency call they are alerted to.

Firefighters who attended Saturday's presentation toasted the award with soft drinks – but they had to leave early after being paged to go on standby at High Wycombe Fire Station.

The Courage Award was sponsored by the Crown Plaza Marlow.
