Strike is called off - but please still take care!

Fri 18 Oct, 2013

The national strike planned for tomorrow evening (Saturday 19 October) by the Fire Brigades Union has been called off.

The five-hour strike – part of a dispute between the Fire Brigades Union and the Government over pensions - was due to take place between 6.30pm and 11.30pm.

Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service had a robust contingency plan in place to provide continuous cover in Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes.

Chief Operating Officer Jason Thelwell said: "We are pleased the strike has been called off, and we hope negotiations between the Fire Brigades Union and the Government prove to be successful.

“Part of our preparation for the strike involved appealing to people to take extra care at home and on the roads. We hope everyone will continue to follow this common-sense advice and reduce the risk of being involved in an emergency at any time of the year.”
