Strike update - public reassurance

Tue 24 Sep, 2013

On the eve of the national strike by firefighters, who are in dispute with the government over pensions, Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service would like to reassure the public that there will be continuous service in Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes tomorrow (Wednesday 25 September).

Jason Thelwell, Chief Operating Officer, said: "Firefighters who are on strike tomorrow will be on duty from 9am to 12 noon and 4pm to 6pm, and have agreed to volunteer to return to work in the event of a major incident.

"We are confident that our business continuity plan, with emergency cover being provided by firefighters who have made a commitment to work for the whole day, has enough capacity to allow us to deliver a safe level of cover across Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes during the strike period.

"As on any other day, we would like to encourage people to take extra care to avoid the risk of an emergency."
