A house in Wooburn Green has been destroyed by a suspected gas explosion this afternoon.

Crews from four fire statons were called to the incident in Old Watery Lane at 5.30pm. Along with local residents, they rescued a man from the two-storey end-of-terrace house, pictured, and he was taken to hospital. A woman who had already been rescued by residents when the emergency services arrived was also taken to hospital.

A cordon has been set up and five houses have been evacuated. Crews used two main jets and a hose reel to bring the fire under control. Firefighters are likely to remain at the scene overnight.

An investigation into the cause of the fire will start in the morning. At its peak, there were about 35 firefighters and officers from Beaconsfield, High Wycombe, Maidenhead and Aylesbury at the incident.
