Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service serves the area covered by Buckinghamshire Council and Milton Keynes City Council. To oversee the service, these two councils appoint members to the Buckinghamshire & Milton Keynes Fire Authority. The number of members appointed from each council is proportionate to the number of local government electors in each area.

Buckinghamshire & Milton Keynes Fire Authority meets no fewer than four times a year, with an annual meeting in June. During this meeting, the Chairman is elected, the Vice-Chairman is appointed, and committee membership is agreed. The Fire Authority governance structure includes an Executive committee and the Overview and Audit committee.
