How do we train people to become one of our On-Call Firefighters?
On-Call Firefighters are trained in modules. Each module allows them to perform more and more of the role.

Each of the modules that On-Call Firefighters train in, and the time commitment required are listed below.
All modules indicated here have one initial input session, which usually takes place on a Wednesday evening, followed by a Saturday/Sunday practical learning and consolidation evening.
Safe to ride
On-Call Firefighter recruits learn the basics in fire ground safety, using and storing our ladders, using and storing hoses and water delivery. Successfully passing this allows them to attend emergency calls as a Trainee Firefighter.
Pumps
On-Call Trainee Firefighters learn about fire service hydraulics, and how to operate fire service pumps, in a range of scenarios and environments.
Ladders
On-Call Trainee Firefighters learn how to work safely at height, how to operate height safety equipment, and perform rescues from height safely.
Road traffic collision
On-Call Trainee Firefighters learn how to safely resolve these types of incidents and operate technical rescue equipment.
Breathing apparatus and compartmental fire behaviour
On-Call Trainee Firefighters learn about fire behaviour, operating and wearing breathing apparatus, extinguishing fires and carrying out rescues from these types of incidents
