Who are enei?

enei (Employers Network for Equality & Inclusion) is the UK’s leading employer network covering all aspects of diversity, equality, and inclusion in the workplace. TIDE (Talent, inclusion, diversity evaluation); enei’s benchmarking tool, evaluates organisation’s performance in diversity and inclusion. They focus on the following areas:

  • Our Workforce
  • Strategy & Plan
  • Leadership & Accountability
  • Recruitment & Attraction
  • Training & Development
  • Other Employment Practices
  • Communication & Engagement
  • Procurement

What we’ve done to achieve our Bronze Standard.

The Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) working group is made of employees from across the service, including three Members of our senior management team and the Councillor for People, Equality and Diversity and Assurance. This group sets the EDI objectives against the Authorities core values of Diversity, Service to the community, Improvement and People.

Some of the ways we embed EDI in the service.

  • We have a range of eLearning packages for all employees, giving people the knowledge and confidence to recognise and promote equalities, diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
  •  We undertake robust Equality Impact Assessments on all our people related policies, procedures, recruitment practices, and business change.
  • Engage with staff and seek feedback on EDI subjects like uniform, facilities and welfare provision to ensure current and future employees and have what they need to carry out their role safely and effectively.
  • We attend community events such as Eid in the Park and Pride. This helps us to increase our understanding of different community groups, improve engagement and increase the diversity of the Service.
  • Collaborate with the other fires services via the Addressing Inequalities group and Asian Fire Service Association.
  • Participation in the ‘Disability Confident Employer Scheme’ – to help the Service recruit and retain people with disability, challenging attitudes and increasing understanding of disability.
  • We take part in the Change 100 Internship which matches talented university students and recent graduates with a disability or long-term condition with employers.
  • We are a member of the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Scheme.
  • Achieved Armed Forces Covenant Gold award in 2022.
