Sleepovers

Sleepover

If your child is invited to a sleepover you will want them to be safe, both in general and in the event of a fire. Before you agree to them attending, here are some things you may wish to consider:

  • Check that there will be a responsible adult present at all times in the property.
  • Check that there are working smoke alarms at the sleepover address.
  • If your child is not normally woken by the sound of a smoke alarm or has hearing loss, notify the sleepover parents so that someone is prepared to wake them and/or help them in an emergency.
  • Check that your child knows what to do if they hear a smoke alarm.
  • Check that your child knows how to raise the alarm.
  • Check that your child is happy to ask about the escape plan of the place they are visiting.
  • Check that your child will tell you if they do not feel safe.
  • If you have any doubts, reverse the sleepover and invite the friend/s to your home instead, remembering to go through your fire plan with any guests you will have staying.
