Bin fire spreading to affect fence
Brooks Mews, Aylesbury
One appliance and crew from Aylesbury attended.
Hot ashes placed in a compost bin had caught alight and the fire had spread to affect approximately four metres of a fence.
The fire was out when they arrived. The firefighters used a thermal imaging camera and provided advice.
Some of the advice we offer is that hot ashes placed into a dustbin or a wheelie bin can melt the plastic and cause a fire. It is better to wait until ashes or coals have cooled before relocating them. More advice is available in our safety hub, on pages relating to barbecues, bonfires and open fires.
