Fire in commercial unit

Tingewick Road Industrial Park, Tingewick Road, Buckingham

Incident update, 10.30am Saturday 16 July 2022

The fire is now extinguished however firefghters remain at the scene to monitor and dampen down hotspots.

All responding crews worked hard to bring the incident to a swift conclusion in challenging weather conditions.

No one was injured during this incident, however due to building instability, and the severity of the fire, firefighters are likely to remain at the scene for rest of the day, potentially throughout the weekend, and some local roads will remain closed.

We are grateful to all who supported the response to this incident, including Thames Valley Police and South Central Ambulance Service.

Incident update: 9am, Saturday 16 July 2022:

The “Stop message” has been sent from incident ground, meaning the appliances and crews at the scene are sufficient to contain the fire.

Scale back of incident response began just after 8.30am.

The entire building, measuring 60 metres by 35 metres, has been involved in the fire. The building contained lithium iron batteries.

During the course of the incident the firefighters used:

  • Four sets of breathing apparatus
  • One turntable ladder which was used as a water tower
  • One light portable pump
  • Four main jets
  • Two hose reels

A reduced number of fire appliances and crews are expected to remain on the site over the course of the day.

The smoke plume from this incident has reduced and is dissipating. Officers at the scene have said that while unpleasant, the smoke itself poses no significant health risk, however residents in affected areas remain advised to keep windows and doors closed until the smoke has fully cleared, to prevent it entering and lingering within their home.

Incident update: 8.30am, Saturday 16 July 2022:

15 appliances and crews and six officers are now in attendance.

The turntable ladder is being used as a water tower.

The firefighters are using:
