Fire in electric storage heater
Parsons Crescent, Shenley Lodge, Milton Keynes
Two appliances and crews from Broughton attended.
The fire was in a new electric storage heater which had recently been installed in the ground floor flat.
The firefighters used a water backpack, a thermal imaging camera, and a tool kit. They removed the heater from the property.
Joanne Cook, Community Safety & Safeguarding Manager, said: “The packaging material inside the storage heater had not been removed during installation and as it heated up the packaging began to smolder, causing light smoke logging to the flat. Fortunately, the occupant was woken by their smoke alarm sounding and escaped safely.
“We are prompting people fitting storage heaters to check that all packaging material is removed during installation, and that the manufacturer’s installation instructions are followed. This is the second incident that we are aware of relating to a new storage heater emitting smoke.”
