Fire on decking caused by disposable barbecue

Robinson Close, Loudwater

Picture showing fire damage to decking caused by use of disposable barbecue

One appliance and crew from Beaconsfield and one from Gerrards Cross attended. The fire was out on arrival. Firefighters used a saw.

The use of barbecues has no doubt increased recently due to the lovely sunny weather we are having and people being at home more due to Covid-19 pandemic.

Fortunately on this occasion, vigilant neighbours became aware of the fire and informed the home owners who then used a garden hose to extinguish the fire before it had time to spread to the house.

Key barbecue safety messages are contained on pages 4 and 5 of the Fire Safety Outdoors booklet (see link below). In addition, disposable barbecues shouldn’t be placed on wooden structures or benches due to the high temperatures produced while they are in use.
