One appliance and crew from Buckingham, one from Winslow, the aerial appliance from West Ashland, and one from Northamptonshire attended, along with an officer.
The lorry contained 23 tonnes of household waste, and the fire was in the waste collection area.
The firefighters used various ladders and removed the front panel on the trainer compartment of the lorry to allow firefighting to take place. They established a water shuttle and also used:
- Two sets of breathing apparatus
- Two hose reel jets
- One main jet
- Two thermal imaging cameras
- Hay drags
- Fog spike
The lorry was moved to a safe location, under police escort, to allow the A421 to reopen.
Relief crews attended the incident overnight.
