Silage bales on fire
Main Street, Poundon
One appliance and crew from Pangbourne, one from Northamptonshire and one from Buckingham attended, along with an officer.
The fire was affecting four bales of bagged silage (each bag weighed around one tonne) in a stack of 120 bales. The stack was adjacent to a stack of 150 one tonne bales of straw.
The firefighters used:
- One main jet
- One hose reel
- A short extension ladder
- Hay drags
- A thermal imaging camera
The firefighters established a water shuttle and mechanical assistance was provided by the farmer.
Once access had been gained to the centre of the stack of silage bales, they found a deep-seated fire.
Around 70 effected bales were removed to open air for controlled burning.
