Firefighters rescue cow from muddy bank of River Thames

Firefighters rescued a cow from deep mud at the side of the River Thames at Little Marlow yesterday (Sunday 23 October) afternoon after it became stuck while looking for a drink from the river.

Firefighters from Beaconsfield, High Wycombe and the large-animal rescue crew from Caversham Road Fire Station in Reading attended.

Firefighters slid strops under the cow, which was sedated by a vet, and it was then lifted by a farmer's tractor.

Station Commander Stuart Grosse from Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service said: "Once the cow came around from the sedation it was persuaded to get on to its feet and walked off with the farmer."
