Marlow flooding update

Thu 13 Feb, 2014

A multi-agency meeting taking place on the Incident Command Unit in Marlow.

Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service has continued to provide resources to support our communities in Buckinghamshire and our colleagues in Berkshire and Somerset today.

Two Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service pumping appliances and Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service's High Volume Pump have been working to protect properties in Marlow.

Neil Boustred, Prevention and Protection Policy Manager, said: "We are simultaneously providing community safety initiatives. Two community safety coordinators have been working alongside Buckinghamshire County Council's Social Services Central Access Team. Together they have visited a number of vulnerable people in Marlow to provide advice and reassurance.

"This activity has been supported by the attendance of our community safety exhibition unit, which has provided the public with advice about flood safety and the risks associated with carbon monoxide. The unit is also equipped with carbon monoxide detectors to hand out if required."

Two pumping appliances and a liaison officer from Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service have been supporting Royal Berkshire Fire & Rescue Service at Maidenhead and Slough Fire Stations. They have been providing fire cover and visiting flooded areas on the Berkshire side of the river, again to provide support and advice to residents.

Joint service coordination meetings are being held in the Incident Command Unit at Marlow. This involves all interested agencies, including local authorities, the Environment Agency, Thames Valley Police and military representatives, ensuring a coordinated approach.

Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service continues to support Devon and Somerset Fire & Recue Service at the Somerset Levels with a 4x4 appliance, crew and liaison officer, helping residents in areas severely affected by flooding.

Crews from the following fire stations have worked shifts in Marlow since Thursday last week: Amersham, Aylesbury, Beaconsfield, Bletchley, Brill, Buckingham, Chesham, Gerrards Cross, Great Missenden, Haddenham, High Wycombe, Marlow, Princes Risborough, Stokenchurch and Winslow.
