This role is based in the workshop at Headquarters in Stocklake, Aylesbury, where we are committed to providing an excellent, modern and agile Fire & Rescue Service for our community.. The successful candidate will be part of a team that are responsible for the servicing, repair and maintenance of the fleet of emergency vehicles, plant, equipment and support vehicles that support the fire service.

Salary: £44,483 to 45,164 (including guaranteed overtime and tool allowance) plus potential to earn additional overtime for out-of-hours on-call availability

The successful candidate will be part of a team that are responsible for the servicing, repair and maintenance of the fleet of emergency vehicles, plant, equipment and support vehicles that support the fire service.

Vacancy details

Required Criteria

  • NVQ Level 3 Heavy Vehicle qualification (or equivalent e.g. City and Guilds)
  • Full driving licence, ideally with category C entitlement (LGV)
  • Skilled in all aspects of light commercial and heavy vehicle servicing and repairs, including diagnostics / electrics

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of welding and associated equipment
  • Vehicle and tool hydraulics
  • Self-motivated, able to work on own initiative to high standards of work
  • Live within 30 minutes travelling time to Aylesbury
  • IRTEC accreditation
Salary: £44,483 to £45,164 (including guaranteed overtime and tool allowance) plus potential to earn additional overtime for out-of-hours on-call availability, based on 7 weeks contractual call-out at £339 per week

Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service can offer you:

  • Potential to earn additional overtime for out-of-hours on-call availability
  • Monday – Thursday 08.00 – 17.00 and Friday 08.00 – 16.00 (no weekends, other than Rota call-out)
  • No shift working
  • 25 days holiday increasing to 30 days with five years’ service + bank holidays
  • Fantastic culture of training and development with onsite and residential training courses, qualifications and internal progression

You will be required to take part in the emergency on-call rota one week out of seven, where you will initially be mentored by another team member, usually for the duration of the six-month probation period.
