Crews from West Ashland, Broughton, Buckingham, Olney, Aylesbury and Newport Pagnell, along with water carriers from Princes Risborough, Towcester and Toddington, attended a large fire in the open.
Firefighters discovered approximately 40 by 20 metres of dry peat well alight on arrival, which had spread to a disused farm building.
Firefighters began tackling the fire using hose reel jets, with breathing apparatus deployed. Due to limited water supplies, a water shuttle system was established.
A telehandler was used to assist with turning over materials and exposing hotspots.
At the height of the incident, firefighters used two hose reel jets and two main jets to bring the fire under control.
Due to the scale and nature of the fire, crews remained on scene for an extended period, with relief crews rotated throughout the operation.
Steady progress was made as the fire was contained to the affected area, and firefighters remain damping down and monitoring of hotspots.
