Another trip to support Kenyan Firefighters!

Last month, a group of six travelled to Kenya to provide specialist training to the Kenyan Fire Service.  The group consisted of two of our Firefighters, two Firefighters from Bedfordshire and two Paramedics from South Central Ambulance Service Trust.

This year, saw five Kenyan counties and two University’s sending members of their fire service to receive training which consisted of:

  • Road traffic collision
  • Rope rescue
  • Fire ground pumping
  • Safe use of ladders
  • Casualty care
  • Fire and road traffic collision prevention activities.

Crew Commander Curtis who took part in the training trip said

‘The trip is a massively rewarding experience; seeing how passionate the firefighters are to learn and improve their skills every day is what makes us want to keep returning.  Their commitment to serve and protect their local communities is something that they should all be immensely proud of.’

Many fire services in Kenya rely on donations from other countries to be able to provide life saving response to its local communities. The donations can include; equipment, PPE (personal protective equipment) and even fire appliances. Our firefighters were able to see just how crucial donations are, and how thankfully they are received.

Crew Commander Hudson added

‘Seeing firsthand how valuable this training is, we hope that this continues for the foreseeable. We are currently still in its infancy stage but with more collaboration with the UK and additional training with donations, a massive change to the safety of people in Kenya will be delivered.’
