This incident is currently generating smoke, and weather conditions may lead to this remaining in the area. While they are continuing to work at the scene, firefighters suggest residents and businesses in the area close to Yardley Road keep doors and windows closed, to avoid lingering smoke entering their homes and businesses.
At the height of the fire four appliances and crews were in attendance along with two officers
The appliances and crew attending were from:
- Broughton
- Bedfordshire
- Northamptonshire
A 20m by 25m open sided barn, containing hay and wood, was well alight when they arrived. The fire was involving around 50 tonnes of hay and had spread to affect a 1,000 litre diesel tank and the barn roof.
The firefighters used:
- One hose reel
- One main jet
- Respiratory equipment
- Scene lighting
- A thermal imaging camera
They established a water shuttle and located a propane cylinder. This was removed and relocated to a safe place away from the fire.
One caravan, located near to the barn, has been damaged by heat from the fire, and a cordon has been put in place.
Firefighters remained on the scene overnight and will continue to be present through the course of today (Thursday 31 October 2024).
They are currently using:
- Two sets of breathing apparatus
- Two main jets
- One hose reel jet
- Thermal imaging camera
- Two hay drags
