Local Pension Board

Buckinghamshire & Milton Keynes Fire Authority is required to establish a Local Pension Board to assist the Authority in its role as Scheme Manager. As Scheme Manager the Authority is responsible for the delivery of the Firefighters’ Pension Scheme.

The Role of Pension Boards

The Public Service Pensions Act 2013 requires that Pension Boards are established for Public Service Pension Schemes. The role of each Board is to help ensure each Scheme complies with governance and administration requirements.

Pension Boards are responsible for assisting the Scheme Managers in securing compliance with the Scheme Regulations and other legislation relating to the governance and administration of the Scheme.

The Local Pension Board for Buckinghamshire & Milton Keynes Fire Authority (“the Board”) has formally adopted Terms of Reference, which cover its purpose, duties, membership, decision making and a number of other topics. The full Terms of Reference can be downloaded below.

Contacting the Board

Please note that the Board is not responsible for providing guidance on the Scheme to individuals or decision making. All queries relating to your pension should be directed to the Scheme administrator; West Yorkshire Pension Fund, email: pensions@wypf.org.uk. Please ensure you reference your National Insurance number when contacting them.

The Board is however keen to receive feedback on how the Scheme is administered locally. If you have any concerns regarding the quality of service you receive (for example timeliness of receiving quotes, accuracy of information provided, lack of clarity in guidance received) then please raise these with one of the employee representatives listed above. Please be as specific as possible in your examples so that the Board can consider how we can best work with the administrators to resolve the issues on your behalf.
