Senior Staff Salary Information

Salaries, accountabilities and responsibilities of the Chief Fire Officer/Chief Executive, members of the Senior Management Team and senior officers within Buckinghamshire & Milton Keynes Fire Authority (BMKFA/Authority) – Updated August 2024.

  • Chief Fire Officer and Chief Executive. Salary: £155,000. Directly responsible to BMKFA. Required to manage Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service (BFRS) on behalf of BMKFA, satisfying the requirements and duties of the Fire & Rescue Services Act 2004.
  • Chief Operating Officer/Deputy Chief Fire Officer. Salary: £150,696. Direct all service delivery activities to meet BMKFA’s core aims and objectives and to deliver all Authority operational instructions. Deputises for the Chief Fire Officer.
  • Assistant Chief Fire Officer. (Interim) Salary £129,286. Providing operational resilience at Brigade Manager level, this role focuses on Service Delivery and Improvement, initially having oversight of our Prevention, Protection and Response functions.
  • Director of Finance and Assets and Statutory Monitoring Section S112 Officer. Salary: £113,802. Acts as principal strategic financial advisor to BMKFA, the Chief Executive, and its members. Provides technical and professional advice to BMKFA, the Chief Fire Officer/Chief Executive, Directors and Brigade Managers. Oversees the Human Resources (HR) function and the development of our Community Risk Management Plan (CRMP).
  • Director of Legal and Governance and Statutory Monitoring Officer. Salary: £113,802. Acts as principal strategic legal and governance advisor to BMKFA, the Chief Executive and its members. Provide technical and professional advice to BMKFA, the Chief Fire Officer/Chief Executive, Directors and Brigade Managers.
  • Head of Protection and Assurance and Development. Salary: (£115,000 – £120,000). Strategic lead for business safety and service development, ensuring we have a sustainable, skilled workforce to meet the BMKFA’s strategic objectives.
  • Group Commanders. Salary: (£80,000 – £85,000). Six operational commanders support the appropriate Head of Service in the delivery of services against objectives and targets within the appropriate service area.
  • Deputy Director of Finance and Assets. Salary: (£75,000 – £80,000). Responsible for major development activities within Finance and Assets along with overall management of Finance and Payroll teams. Deputises for the Director of Finance and Assets and Treasurer and in relation to section 112 statutory officer duties.
  • Head of Technology, Transformation and Portfolio Management Office (PMO). Salary: (£75,000 – £80,000). Strategic lead for service development, with overall management of ICT, Data Intelligence and Communication and Marketing teams. Responsible for leading the PMO, through innovative working and horizon scanning, ensuring that any prospective projects/programmes are evaluated thoroughly and contribute towards BMKFA’s strategic objectives and enablers.  This role focuses on His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS) Action Plan
  • Head of Prevention and CRMP (Interim). Salary: (£70,000 – £75,000). Strategic lead for all prevention activities to meet BMKFA’s core objectives and ensures successful performance of the function. Supports development of our CRMP.
  • Head of Human Resources. Salary: (£70,000 – £75,000). Provide overall strategic management of the HR function, including oversight of equality, diversity and inclusion, ensuring that all HR advisory, transactional and administrative support to BMKFA is delivered efficiently, effectively, accurately and in a timely manner to enable the Authority to achieve its strategic objectives.
  • Station Commander. Salary: (£65,000 – £70,000). Responsible for fire station(s), or one of the following: Resource Management Team/Thames Valley Fire Control, Prevention, On-Call, Protection, High Risk Residential Buildings, Training Assurance, Research and Development, Response Policy, Operational Preparedness, Breathing Apparatus.
  • Principal Accountants. Salary: (£55,000 – £60,000). Responsible for the production of the Medium-Term Financial Plan, the Statement of Accounts and the development and management of the finance system. Reports to Senior Management/Members and Treasury Management.
  • Organisational Development Manager. Salary: (£55,000 – £60,000). Responsible for developing and maintaining the right organisational design in terms of people, skills, and continued professional development resulting in the Service being able to adapt and refresh the workforce to improve service delivery. Creates and maintains a sustainable workforce that enables BMKFA to take appropriate action to recruit, develop and retain the right workforce.
  • Procurement Manager. Salary: (£55,000 – £60,000). Responsible for satisfying BMKFA’s strategic objectives for procurement and contracts management. Ensures best value is obtained for all contracts let, ensuring compliance with Standing Orders, current Government and European Legislation, and the national and regional procurement frameworks.
  • Property Manager. Salary: (£55,000 – £60,000). Responsible for leading the Property and Facilities Management teams to ensure all operational imperatives are met.
  • ICT Manager. Salary: (£55,000 – £60,000). Develops and manages BMKFA’s vision, policy and strategy for ICT, aligned to our public safety and corporate plans.
  • Fleet Manager. Salary: (£55,000 – £60,000). Responsible for leading the Fleet Workshop team and the Equipment team to ensure all operational imperatives are met.
  • Corporate Planning Manager. Salary: (£50,000 – £55,000). Responsible for ensuring the allocation of corporate and service resources are aligned with BMKFA’s strategic aims and priorities, and are in proportion to risk and demand, by operating efficient and effective corporate and integrated risk management planning processes.
  • HR Advisory and Development Manager. Salary: (£50,000 – £55,000). Responsible for advising, supporting, influencing, and challenging employees and managers, to deliver their plans and provides high level people management and development support.
  • HR Operations Manager. Salary: (£50,000 – £55,000). Responsible for the recruitment of Operational and Support Services employees and leading the HR Operations team in their HR advice and transactional work through the employee lifecycle.
  • Health and Safety Manager. Salary: (£50,000 – £55,000). Responsible for providing professional advice on health and safety matters, policy issues, and compliance with health and safety legislation.
  • Community Safety/Safeguarding Manager. Salary: (£50,000 – £55,000). Responsible for delivering the best possible service to the community and safeguarding those who are most vulnerable/at risk. A subject matter expert and lead advisor to the Service and community safety partnerships on prevention policy and safeguarding. Translates statutory responsibilities into prevention, safeguarding, and serious violence duty strategies and guidance.
  • Data Intelligence Team Manager. Salary: (£50,000 – £55,000). Leads the Data Science and Business Intelligence team in the management of corporate data and the provision of high-quality information, and intelligence, to support complex pan-organisational decision making.
  • Communication, Marketing and Engagement Manager. Salary: (£50,000 – £55,000). Leads on effective internal and external communication, marketing and engagement strategies that actively support strategic objectives and maintain the Service’s reputation. Responsible for developing and delivering a comprehensive marketing and engagement plan, using innovative tactics to build brand recognition and develop strategies that support and complement our strategic aims.
  • Programme Manager. Salary: (£50,000 – £55,000). Manages the successful delivery of projects and programmes within agreed tolerances for budget, timescales, and quality to support BMKFA strategy, goals and objectives. Provides project management expertise and hands-on specialist support to project managers.
