SEND visits

Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service understands that children in specialist settings for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) may follow an adjusted curriculum. An educational visit is offered to all settings catering for SEND which is bespoke to the needs of the children in the setting.
The content of this visit will be developed through discussion between the Community Safety Officer and the lead adult from the setting and may include:
  • The role of a Firefighter – what they do each day when not fighting fires
  • Firefighting uniform – being familiar with what a Firefighter may wear in a fire can help a child to trust a Firefighter who is trying to assist them at a time of need
  • Smoke alarms – what to expect and what to do when a smoke alarm sounds a warning
  • Escape planning – what actions should be taken when there is a fire
  • Calling 999 – what to say, how to call for help if they are non-verbal
  • Stop, drop and roll – what to do if their clothes catch light

If you would like to arrange an educational engagement visit for your setting, please email education@bucksfire.gov.uk including the following information:

  • the setting you are making the request on behalf of
  • your name
  • contact details
  • how many children
  • the range of SEND in the group or class including anyone with noise sensitivity
