Being a Firefighter with us is not like any other job!

Being a Firefighter with us is not like any other job!

Working at BFRS is not just a job, it’s a career!

Our work can be unpredictable, exciting and rewarding. Couple that with the satisfaction and respect that comes with providing a crucial service to your local community, and you will start to understand the offer we make to those interested in working at Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service.

Our fire crews are called on to attend the full range of incidents including fires, floods, road traffic collisions, chemical spills and more. That might lead you to think that being a Firefighter is a dangerous career, but we adopt an assertive, safe and effective approach to how we manage incidents.

While around the country there have been some fatalities to Firefighters when attending incidents (and we acknowledge an incident can never be hazard-free), we’ve developed a very positive approach to health and safety.

Organisationally we set extremely high standards and expectations in this area. Our Firefighters work within a ‘competency framework,’ as well as effective personal protective equipment such as helmets and other fire kit.

At incidents, safe systems of work are established with a high level of command and control. We also constantly stress the importance of personal safety to our staff. Those working in front line response on the incident ground will be trained in first aid, road traffic collision procedures and fire safety, with other opportunities to learn additional skills, such as driving large goods vehicles.

Away from incidents, our commitment to health safety and wellbeing is maintained across all areas of activity. Our Firefighters also work closely with the community to increase their level of awareness and to help prevent incidents from occurring in the first place.

Alongside developing role-based skills and awareness, we offer our excellent flexible working arrangements to help manage work-life balance and generous holiday allowances which increase with long service. We also offer benefits personal to each employee.

As an equal opportunity employer, we welcome applications from people of any colour, race, nationality, ethnic origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, marital status or with disabilities.

Employees at Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service can expect an exciting, varied and worthwhile career.
