Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service Formalises Business Engagement with New Framework

Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service (BFRS) has introduced its Business Engagement Framework, a structured approach to supporting businesses across Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes with fire safety.

While BFRS has always engaged with businesses, the framework formalises this work and creates a consistent way to provide advice, guidance, and support. It sets out how the Service will:

  • Improve businesses’ understanding of their legal fire safety responsibilities
  • Help reduce the risk of fire in workplaces and public premises
  • Protect staff, customers, and the wider community
  • Minimise the likelihood of formal enforcement action through clear, proactive advice

Supporting Businesses, Supporting Safety

Station Commander, John Williams, who leads the Business Engagement Team, said:

“We’re really excited to see the Business Engagement Framework officially launched. For us as a team, it’s a chance to take the work we’ve always done with businesses and give it more structure, focus, and consistency. It provides a clear way to build stronger, lasting relationships with local businesses.

We know how devastating a fire can be to a company, not just to the building, but to staff, families, and the community that relies on them. This framework helps businesses feel confident in understanding and meeting their fire safety responsibilities. It’s about making fire safety simple, accessible, and proportionate, so businesses can focus on what they do best while knowing they’re protecting the people who matter most.”

A Safer, More Resilient Community

The Business Engagement Framework also highlights the benefits of the Primary Authority Scheme, where multi-site businesses receive consistent expert guidance that can be applied across all locations. This helps businesses save time, reduce uncertainty, and strengthen resilience.

For BFRS, formalising the framework ensures fire safety advice is targeted, effective, and transparent, supporting economic resilience while protecting communities.
