The Blue Light Hub building was opened in 2020, this state-of-the-art facility integrates Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service (BFRS) with Thames Valley Police (TVP) and South-Central Ambulance Service (SCAS), fostering greater collaboration between emergency services.
In September 2024, we began this exciting collaborative project, working in partnership with our Emergency Services colleagues at Thames Valley Police, South Central Ambulance as well as Honey Mosaic, who have been pivotal in getting this project over the finish line.
What was the project?
The Blue Light Hub thrives on community spirit, making it essential to engage our local community in this collaborative effort. Students from local schools began designing and creating drawings to be incorporated into the joint Emergency Services mosaic, that is proudly installed in the reception area of the Blue Light Hub. The drawings ranged from a police helicopter to paramedics and specialist firefighting appliances. This initiative captured the students’ artistic talents and there community pride shines through. Once the designs were submitted, a selection panel confirmed which drawings could be integrated within the mosaic.
Sarah, from Honey Mosaic then worked her magic to create the final design that incorporated the selected designs from the children. The design was then brought to life by local children, volunteers and staff from local organisations and colleagues from the three Emergency Services by filling in the mosaic with coloured tiles.
Our Fire and Rescue Service crews visited local schools to fill in the mosaic with the children, they even let them try on fire kit, provided safety advice and gave them the opportunity to find out what it’s really like to be a firefighter for the community.
In April this year (2025) the project drew to a close, the final tile was placed and the grouting process began.
Today (Friday 9 May 2025) we are proud to host the unveiling of the mosaic. We thank everyone who attended this milestone and celebrated this memorable gathering, including the Mayoress of Milton Keynes, Emergency Service colleagues and children from our local schools.
A huge thank you to the Mayoress of Milton Keynes for unveiling the mosaic.
Sarah Harper from Honey Mosaic, shared;
This project has enabled me to give a creative opportunity to over 700 individuals, it has been an honour and a privilege to work with everyone throughout the project’s duration. Working with Danny Graham, West Ashland’s Station Commander it was clear from the outset that our values for bringing communities together aligned. I have had a huge amount of project partners working with me to deliver this project and I am so grateful for all the support I have been given and the huge efforts from so many individuals that have helped to make this project a huge success. I am so proud of all the children I have worked with, watching them learn and create with enthusiasm and pride. This mosaic has allowed me to use 26 young artists illustrations, the beautiful work is a true testament to their talent. This mosaic tells the story of our project and our community, a legacy piece that shows what happens we work together with creativity at the heart of our work.
