Emergency Alerts Test : Sunday 7 September 2025

Emergency Alerts Test : Sunday 7 September 2025

The Emergency Alerts system will be undertaking a national test on Sunday 7 September 2025, at around 3pm.

Please be assured that this is a test and no action is required.

What to expect?

The message  will be sent to all 4G and 5G phone networks in the UK. This test will vibrate and make a siren-like sound, including the message below:

“This is a test of Emergency Alerts, a UK government service that will warn you if there’s a life-threatening emergency nearby.

“You do not need to take any action. In a real emergency, follow the instructions in the alert to keep yourself and others safe.

“Find simple and effective advice on how to prepare for emergencies at gov.uk/prepare.

“Visit gov.uk/alerts for more information or to view this message in Welsh. Ewch i gov.uk/alerts am ragor o wybodaeth neu i weld y neges hon yn y Gymraeg.”

Why is the government carrying out the testing?

Since the first national test of the Emergency Alerts system in April 2023, five alerts have been sent, including during major storms when lives were at risk. It is important the system is tested to ensure it is efficient in the event of an emergency.

Please help spread the message that this testing is set to take place on Sunday 7 September at around 3pm.

Advice for survivors of domestic abuse

If you are affected by domestic abuse and have a concealed mobile phone or tablet from your abuser, you may not wish the sound of the alert to draw attention to your phone.

How you opt out depends on your device.  Full instructions telling you how to opt out are available at [https://www.gov.uk/alerts/opting-out]
