Gas was leaking from an internal supply pipe, in a communal area of a block of flats, when they arrived.
The building had been evacuated before they arrived.
The firefighters isolated the gas supply to the building and established a scene cordon.
They used two sets of breathing apparatus and a gas monitor.
The incident was left in the hands of a gas engineer.
