About this vacancy

As a Fire Safety Inspecting Officer, you will help protect people, property and communities by regulating a diverse range of non-domestic premises and higher-risk residential buildings. You will undertake risk-based fire safety audits, provide specialist fire safety advice, respond to statutory consultations and, where necessary, use proportionate enforcement to secure compliance with fire safety legislation.

 

The role includes

  • Undertaking risk-based fire safety audits across a diverse range of non-domestic premises and higher-risk residential buildings
  • Providing professional fire safety advice to Responsible Persons and duty holders, using education, engagement and proportionate enforcement to secure compliance with fire safety legislation
  • Responding to complaints and undertaking statutory consultations under Building Regulations, licensing and housing legislation
  • Investigating alleged breaches of fire safety legislation and preparing enforcement notices and prosecution case files where appropriate
  • Maintaining accurate records on the Premises Risk Management System (PRMS) and contributing to the Service’s Risk-Based Intervention Programme (RBIP).
  • Producing high-quality reports, correspondence, notices and technical records in accordance with legislation, Service procedures and national guidance

 

We are looking for a competent and motivated fire safety professional who is committed to improving public safety through proportionate, risk-based regulation. You will be able to build positive relationships with businesses and partner agencies while making confident, evidence-based decisions in your role as an enforcing officer.

Qualification and experience required:

  • Full UK driving licence
  • Level 4 Diploma in Fire Safety
  • Competent Fire Safety Inspecting Officer with experience of undertaking fire safety audits across a range of premises, undertaking statutory consultations and using proportionate enforcement where appropriate
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Office and relevant Service information systems
  • Able to assess risk, exercise sound professional judgement and produce clear, evidence-based reports
