Meet Emma, she first started open water swimming in 2011, her initial goal was to swim a mile in the River Thames. Since then, she has continued her passion and completed many swims including a challenge from Jersey to France!
Emma will be aiming to swim the English Channel later this year in August. This swim is approximately 21 miles but due to currents, winds and other factors swimmers can cover significantly more miles.
On top of being a Wholetime Firefighter and responding to incidents to keep her community safe, she is also training 4 times a week. This attempt reflects Emma’s dedication, commitment and perseverance.
Safety
To ensure safety is a top priority, Emma will be monitored throughout the swim by a support team on a safety boat, where she will receive water and refuel.
We asked Emma why she’s keen to take part in this challenge;
“Once I have an idea in my head and started talking to crews around me, I knew I had to book it in to attempt it. I am really excited to take on the challenge in August. I would love your support on this, I will be raising money for the Firefighters Charity – any donations would be really appreciated.”
