Walk around the Chilterns In Fire Kit

Walk around the Chilterns In Fire Kit

26.2 mile charity walk in Amersham.

This October, a team of determined firefighters from Amersham Fire Station will be stepping up to a remarkable challenge, walking a full marathon wearing their operational fire kit. That’s 26.2 miles of grit, heart, and heavy gear, all in support of two incredible causes close to the crew’s hearts.

The challenge, taking place on 11 October 2025, is more than just a test of physical endurance. The team will be raising funds for The Fire Fighters Charity and Sparkles, both of which provide vital support to those in need across our communities.

When asking Crew Commander, James Linton-Smart, why they decided to raise money for these charities, he shared;

“In light of the incident that took place in Bicester, Oxfordshire, this highlighted that it is vital for Firefighters and their families to get the advice, guidance and support when needed most.

We also chose Sparkles, this is a charity based locally in Buckinghamshire that offers free private therapies to help develop and support children with down syndrome. Because they offer these services for free, they require donations to keep the charity alive.”

The fire kit worn by the crew adds a unique element to the journey. Each firefighter will be carrying upwards of 20kg, symbolising not just the physical demands of their day-to-day role, but also their commitment to going above and beyond for those who rely on them. Some Firefighters will also have the weight of a breathing apparatus (BA) set on their back too. They believe the biggest challenge they will face will be fatigue and mental resilience.

How can you support your local Firefighters?

  • Cheering Them On: Join the team along the marathon route to offer encouragement and applause, your presence will be greatly appreciated.
  • Spreading the Word: Share the team’s story on social media to help raise awareness and inspire others to get involved.
