Ways you can join Buckinghamshire Fire & Service

There are routes into the Bucks Fire Service that will suite you.

Join as a Wholetime Firefighter.

Wholetime Firefighters are contracted to work in the fire service as their primary employment serving at one of our Wholetime or Day crewed fire stations dotted across the county.

We recruit for Wholetime fighters around twice a year. Your application journey starts online.  Successful applicants are invited to undertake a series of online and role related tests, along with medical and DBS checks. The whole process can take around 6 months from application to your first day at the Bucks Fire.

Become an On-Call Firefighter

If you have spare time or work in a job that is flexible, then becoming an On-Call Firefighter might be for you!

We have around 100 On-Call Firefighters across the county who provide a range of fire and rescue service roles. These range from emergency calls, working at open days, carrying out work with their local communities and acting as an ambassador for the fire service.

Our On-Call Firefighters have everyday jobs, for example, we have landscape gardeners, company directors, parents, and semi-retired people ready to respond from home or their primary employment.  When they are alerted by the smartphone app they become professional Firefighters.

You can apply to become an On-Call Firefighter all year around.

On-Call Migration

Becoming an On-Call firefighter can be a great pathway to becoming a wholetime firefighter. We often run specific recruitment campaigns for competent On-Call Firefighters who are looking to migrate to a wholetime role. This is open to our own On-Call Firefighters and anyone looking to transferee from another service.

Transfer from another service

Whether you are looking for the next step in your Firefighting career or simply relocating, we always welcome applicants from other Fire Services.

We run transfer opportunities throughout the year, from Firefighter to Group Commander level.
