In a step towards enhancing community safety and emergency response, we are proud to announce the launch of two new Rural Firefighting Vehicles (RFVs) across Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes. These dedicated vehicles are designed to serve some of the remote communities, bringing faster, more agile fire and rescue capabilities to rural areas.
Narrow country lanes, dispersed populations, and limited access to water sources can complicate our traditional firefighting efforts. The new rural vehicles are specifically equipped to overcome these obstacles, with a cutting-edge Mist-Tech pump system, 4×4 off-roading capabilities, and specialist wildfire kit onboard.

These specialist rural firefighting units will be introduced as part of our commitment to protecting every community. They will initially be based at Chesham Fire Station and High Wycombe Fire Station, with the flexibility to be repositioned if needed to ensure the best possible cover across the county. They will respond swiftly to incidents such as:
- Agricultural fires
- Barn and outbuilding blazes
- Road traffic collisions in remote areas
- Medical emergencies where time is critical
Ready for Wildfire Season
With the UK experiencing increasingly warmer and drier summers, the risk of wildfires has grown significantly. The new rural unit vehicles are equipped with specialist gear, giving crews quick access to the tools they need. The crews are trained in advanced tactics to tackle wildfires swiftly and effectively in open land and moorland environments.
A Smarter, Safer Future
Project Lead Aaron Ridgley said; “We are pleased to be investing in our rural capabilities across Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes. We’re not only addressing current gaps, but we’re also preparing for future challenges. Climate change, evolving risks, and the need for community-based solutions demand a more flexible and responsive approach. Together, we’re building a smarter, safer future, One service, for every community.”
