This week marks International Control Room Week (27 October – 2 November 2025), a time to shine a spotlight on the incredible work done by the team in our Thames Valley Fire Control Room.

While fire engines and crews are often the visible face of our service, behind every successful incident response is a calm, focused voice guiding the way. Our Control Room staff are the first point of contact in moments of crisis.
Whether it’s a house fire, a road traffic collision, or a large-scale incident, they are trained to stay composed under pressure, make split-second decisions, and communicate vital information with clarity and compassion.
Their role demands technical expertise, emotional resilience, and a deep commitment to public safety. Every call they take could be a moment of crisis for someone, and they respond with professionalism and empathy, day in and day out.
Area Commander Paul Scanes shared;
“Our Control Room teams are the backbone of our emergency response. Their ability to stay composed, make split-second decisions, and support both the public and our crews is nothing short of remarkable. We simply couldn’t do what we do without them.”
Throughout International Control Room Week, we’ll be sharing behind the scenes and insights from the team who work tirelessly. It’s a chance to recognise all they do and say thank you.
To our Control Room colleagues: your work saves lives, supports communities, and strengthens our service. We’re proud to celebrate you this week, and every week.
