BFRS Firefighters training with Army Cadets

We opened our doors at High Wycombe Fire Station for Army Cadets to take part in a drill night with the crew.

Last week we welcomed Army Cadets from Beaconsfield, Marlow and High Wycombe to take part in a drill night with the crew.

This event provided a great opportunity for the Cadets to build on their experience in strengthening their hose skills – with valuable support and advice from our firefighters at Wycombe.

Some of our members of staff have previous army experience and the skills learned are often transferable in their firefighter careers.

FF Jones said “I was an army cadet and I made lifelong connections during my time as a cadet. I then wanted to use the skills I’d learnt and joined Bucks Fire as a Marlow On-Call firefighter and then decided I’d like to do it full time.”

WC Jackson “I was a cadet force adult volunteer, where I learnt transferable military skills that I still use day to day in the Fire Service.”

We are proud to have signed the Armed Forces Covenant, which is its pledge to recognise the value serving personnel, reservists, veterans and military families can bring to the organisation.  We currently hold the Gold award for our commitment to forces friendly initiatives such as employing veterans, supporting individuals transitioning out of the armed forces into a new career and providing flexibility for the reservists.

Events like these are invaluable to our service, we are looking forward to being apart of more in the future!
