Flat fire

Past

Eight crews from Amersham, Beaconsfield, Gerrards Cross, High Wycombe and Winslow, supported by crews from Rickmansworth and Garston, along with a Hertfordshire command support unit and five officers, attended a fire at a block of flats.

Firefighters used four breathing apparatus, four hose reel jets, two main jets and a 10.5-metre ladder to tackle a fire believed to have started in an external outbuilding before spreading to a two‑storey block of four flats.

Crews made steady progress extinguishing the fire and carried out extensive damping down and turning over, using thermal imaging cameras to check for and extinguish remaining hotspots.

Two flats were severely damaged by fire, while two others were affected by smoke.

A dog was rescued and given oxygen at the scene, and one firefighter was assessed as a precaution.

Crews remained on scene for a prolonged period, including relief crews, with further reinspections carried out to ensure the building was safe.

Thames Valley Police and South Central Ambulance Service were also in attendance.
