One appliance and crew from Broughton and one from West Ashland attended.
Smoke was issuing from a two-storey house when they arrived.
The firefighters used small gear to gain access to the house.
They then used two sets of breathing apparatus and one hose reel jet.
The fire was located on the hob of a ground floor kitchen. It had caused around 70 per cent smoke damage, but no fire damage.
The firefighters used a positive pressure ventilation fan to help clear the smoke, and provided advice to the owner.
