Two appliances and crews from West Ashland, one from Broughton, along with an officer attended.
Smoke was issuing from the ground floor of a residential building.
The firefighters used two sets of breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet, a gas monitor and a positive pressure ventilation fan.
They provided immediate emergency care to a man, believed to be suffering from smoke inhalation.
The ground floor was approximately 10 percent damaged by smoke and approximately 5 percent damaged by fire.
