Steve Wells

Head of Prevention, Response & Resilience

Steve started his career in Surrey Fire & Rescue Service, which he joined in 1991, and served at several stations, both as a Firefighter and then Crew Commander.

He joined Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service in 1994.

Since joining BFRS he has undertaken a range of roles, notably within Operational Training where Steve started as an Instructor.  Steve progressed to manager, where he had responsibility for the provision of training to maintain the competences of frontline staff.

Steve oversaw the integration of the National Resilience ‘New Dimensions’ Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) project, within Buckinghamshire, as the Station Manager USAR. Working within the Service Delivery team, he managed operational fire stations within Milton Keynes, and then served at different times, as the Territorial Commander for  both the South, and North of our geographical area.

In July 2020 Steve undertook the lead role for COVID-19 Preparedness and Response. This role focused on our ability to sustain core services, particularly for those groups who were most vulnerable and isolated, while extending support to the broader public sector partners whose services continued to be subject to exceptionally high levels of demand, as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Steve was appointed Head of Prevention, Response & Resilience in May 2021 and is responsible for the effective delivery of our statutory response duties and dedicated community safety activities.
